Tom & Doug - The Music & The Madness

Volume 1 - Outstanding in Their Field

The 19th Anniversary Album

Songs on Volume 1 include:

  1. We're Not Gonna Take It -- It came to us in a dream. The great teen angst anthem of the 1980s and the Laverne and Shirley theme song, blended together in one jazzy cocktail. Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister) used it to close his radio show for years. No, really! (sample)
  2. Gangsta Knitter -- The inevitable fusion of hip-hop and knitting cultures. A hardcore look at the latest urban blight.
  3. Come Along with Me -- When people think of fine surfing, very few recall that New Jersey offers some of the most exciting and death-defying surfing possibilities in the world.
  4. Stray Cat Strut (live) -- Nothing says tapdancing like, well, James Earl Jones and Peter Lorre singing Stray Cat Strut. Live at Good Time Charley's, July 18, 1989. (sample)
  5. Feminist Blues Medley -- An important feminist blues song (Don't Treat Your Man Like a Dog), paired with a song about the ultimate feminist. (sample)
  6. Tomorrow Never Knows -- With traditional African drums.
  7. A Toast to Champaign-- A tribute to Champaign/Urbana, Illinois.
  8. The Arsenal of Salvation -- Idea stolen from John Florek's play, Religio a GoGo. We're going straight to hell for this one, folks...
  9. Heavy Metal -- A marvelous medieval English poem with amazing alliteration about the damned din those blasted blacksmiths make.
  10. I Should Like to Live up a Tree -- The type of song Ringo Starr would write if Ringo wrote songs like Tom would write when trying to write like Ringo. Recorded live over the phone.
  11. Meet the Flintstones (live with the Kazoo Guru Orchestra) -- Live via satellite at Good Time Charley's, with the 30-member Kazoo Orchestra led by the Intrepid Kazoo Guru - Phyllis Teitelbaum. (sample)
  12. Can't Stop for a Minute -- Our secret agent song - composed of word images.
  13. Real Dream -- What the name says.
  14. The Bird Song -- From our abortive rock opera. You try to figure out the plot surrounding this gem.
  15. I Saw Her Standing There -- We're big Beatles fans. And Reggae fans. And calypso fans. And Hula dance fans. Put 'em together and whataya got? (sample)
  16. Macho Man (live) -- Live at the Mystery Cafe, St. Paul, MN, 1994. Who knew the lyrics were this bad? (sample)
  17. Go to a Party -- A classic punk-rock song, performed as a smooth jazz tune.
  18. Sooner or Later -- Truth is just truth.
